It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic and premature death of one of our finest students, Justin Kivoy. Justin died from a throat infection, and his funeral takes place on Sunday 1 July.

Justin was informed just days before his death that he had been selected to study A’ Levels in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Musoma Boys’ School, and he was due to start his course in mid July. Justin was extremely academically gifted, in fact his secondary school national examination results were the best of all 27 Meserani Project students who completed their secondary education last year.

Justin was sponsored through his secondary education by Nick Whaley, a former employee of Barclays Bank in Teesside, and currently working in Mexico for Tui Travel. Nick had kindly offered to sponsor Justin through his two years of A’ Level studies as well. In August 2016 Nick actually met Justin during a group trip to Tanzania, and established a great friendship with him.

Justin lived with both parents. There are seven children in the family (four girls and three boys). The mother doesn’t work, and the father does his best to support the family, but they are very poor. Justin brought great pride to his family through his academic success, and was destined to bring financial security to them one day.

Justin was a wonderful young man, friendly, diligent, ambitious, and he was noted for his calm and peaceful disposition. Our thoughts are with Justin’s family, and all those who knew him.
