Day one of our current visit to Meserani (16 December):
Had a meeting with the Principal of Arusha Vocational Technical College to negotiate places on a three-year course for three of our students (Bwanashamba, John & Meporoo) – need to go back next week to confirm things.
Spent half a day playing stationers off each other in Arusha, and managed to get significant discounts for all our forthcoming requirements (for example – whiteboards down from £87 to £60).
Tomorrow we are meeting all the 25 new pupils who are being sponsored to start secondary school in January – they all need measuring for uniform and school shoes. We are also meeting the 34 pupis who start Form Three in January – they need new uniforms and school shoes, as they have been at school for two years now. We are looking forward to handing over letters from their sponsors.
Some bad news this morning – a 17-year-old schoolmate of the girls we sponsor at Kipok Girls Boarding School was swept away in a flash flood last week just at the back of Meserani village – they still haven’t found her body.
