The new Meserani Secondary School will be admitting it’s fourth intake of pupils in January, and the school will then be full, with all four year groups. Following discussion with teachers at the school and our committee members in Tanzania, our sponsorship programme has now evolved to meet the needs of pupils at the school.

Pupils at the school are required to have a large inventory of equipment and uniform items, and the families of many pupils simply do not have the financial resources to pay for everything, so these pupils have to manage as best as they can. However, there are an increasing number of pupils who do not even have the basic requirements, and these are the ones that we are focussing on now.

Our new secondary school sponsorship programme will provide the most needy of pupils with the following basic requirements:

• School uniform
• School bag
• Sweater
• School shoes
• Shoe polish
• Rain boots
• Ten counter books
• Body soap
• Body lotion
• Clothes soap
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste

The one off cost of sponsoring a pupil, to cover us purchasing the above equipment and uniform for them, is £60

If you allow us to claim Gift Aid on your sponsorship payment, which is at no cost to yourself, we can use the £15 we get from the Inland Revenue to buy vital resources for the school itself. Please contact us if you are able to sponsor one or more pupils at the school – we already have a large number of pupils requiring this level of support.

There is a second tier of sponsorship, which will be needed at the end of 2027, and we need to plan in advance for this. We will need to support any pupils at the school who have completed their four years of secondary education, and have been so successful in the national examinations, that they have been selected to progress to High School to study A’ Levels. There will certainly be some of these pupils who will not be able to take up the offer of progressing to A’ Level studies, because it not only involves school fees, but it also involves paying for accommodation, food, text books, transport and basic studying materials.
