2015 Trip – 11 July

Lewis Jefferson

Jambo!! The first full day was amazing even though it was a relax day (apparently). We went to the supermarket in the morning and it was incredibly cheap I was tempted to buy a pair of shoes but I thought against it. We then set off to our second camp and on the way saw the Rift Valley and it was spectacular! Didn’t know what to say but the photos didn’t do it justice on how big it was. After, we saw our first animals which were zebras and giraffes. Can’t wait for our travels tomorrow! Missing all my family and my girlfriend loads!! I love you all lots.

Hi guys. Following a long journey, I was lucky enough to sleep fantastically on our first night camping. The next morning, we were treat to a lovely breakfast, followed by a trip to a supermarket that was incredibly cheap. 95 Kenyan Shillings for a 1.5 litre bottle of water, so I bought four! We then travelled past the Rift Valley which stretches from the Dead Sea all the way across to Eastern Mozambique. We then travelled on towards our campsite for the night in Fish Eagle Camp. Only one full day in and I’m loving it already, missing the family, hope your all well and see you soon!

Hi everyone back home. Got some well deserved sleep last night and felt much better today. We’ve been to a local supermarket to buy around 10 litres of water each! We have been to visit Rift Valley which is amazing. You can’t comprehend how big it is. I can’t show you exactly what I saw because the pictures can’t show the distance of it. That would have been the highlight of the trip however I also saw some Giraffes and Zebras and got to hear my song choice ‘Pig Bag’ (the boro theme tune) played in the truck when we were travelling. Wish you were all here. I’ll be back in touch soon.

Jambo!!! So today was such a nice pace, it wasn’t relaxing but it was just what we needed after not much sleep last night. I got up at half seven and was a bit confused about where I was but soon remembered where I was without too much confusion. After breakfast (they have weetabix!) we went to a super market to buy some drinking water for the next few days and two things happened. 1) they have a Cadbury’s chocolate bar that is white chocolate ON milk chocolate!! And 2) the chocolate was more expensive than my water! So after that, we went to Rift Valley, I have pictures but they do not do it justice, it’s huge! And we were driving down it and some of the locals and they waved and we waved but we saw GIRAFFES AND ZEBRAS! We’re in the Fish Eagle campsite and I really want to see some hippos tonight! Love you, see you soon.

After a very long night and a short sleep, I still woke up feeling fairly fresh and today went at slow, steady place. We woke up early had breakfast and payed our first visit to our local supermarket.. where I came across some gorgeous chocolate that had both a milk chocolate and white chocolate  layer!.. why don’t we sell this at home? Tonight we travelled to fish eagle camp on our huge truck. Along the journey we saw some of the locals and how they lived.. I was really shocked when I got my first glimpse of this for the first time! We have finally settled down for the night now and im currently waiting for tea. Finally, I cant wait to see what the upcoming days  bring!

Today has been fairly relaxed, got to go to a Kenyan supermarket for the first time bought some water and chocolate. Then pursued the journey onwards packing up from the campsite and straight to another. Passing though developed and less developed areas, it was very interseting. Also on the way say some cool animals: Zebra, Giraffe and also a wild cat at the campsite.

After a very very long night again we were finally tucked up in bed getting a nights sleep. The morning wake up wasn’t as bad as expected as we had time to get up and potter around making sure that we had everything and took all our medication. Before we went off to the shops we played a few games which were fun and good to get to know everyone, we then went t the shop which was an experience as the roads were very hectic. After all that we packed up camp and set off for Fish Eagle camp where we are now but on the way we saw Rift Valley which was absolutely incredible it went on for as long as the eye could see, I had never seen anything like it.  We are in camp now and just waiting for tea, spag bol!! I hope everything is fine at home and I am missing you all like mad I can’t wait to see you!! You’ll have to tan well Ellie I’ll give you a challenge. Love you all.

Jambo everyone! I managed to get a good 5 hours sleep and I was excited for upcoming events. Today had my first amazing experience as we went to see rift valley which is the largest rift in the world. I took so many pictures of the view. We have now arrived in a new camp called Fish Eagle Camp and we are having spag bol! I really can’t to experience more and more amazing things and to see what the rest of the Africa Trip has to offer. I’m sure it’s going to blow my mind if it’s just as good as today! I miss the family and Lydia and I hope you are all doing well. I love you all! Tuta Onana.

We are currently at Fish Eagle Campsite (the one with the lake that has hippos in) and are waiting for tea. Last night, when we arrived at Kenya airport we waited almost two hours to get our bags from the carousel, it then turned out that three pieces of luggage had gotten lost which wasn’t the greatest. We got one of the bags back this morning and I we’ll surely get the other stuff back at some point. We got to the campsite at 12:30 and Peter actually let us sleep in until 7 this morning, so waking up wasn’t too difficult. We then went to the supermarket to buy water, went back to the camp and played some drama games that I was rubbish at. After that we drove here by the rift valley which was cool to see again because it’s really big and we took some nice photos. I’m looking forward to going to sleep tonight as I’m really tired. Hope everything is okay at home. J

Hello! Today has been surprisingly relaxing… we walked to the shops to get some water, played some drama games J, and drove all the way down to fish eagle. I was shocked to the amount of locals who would smile and wave at you in the bus it made the journey so much more enjoyable! Their happiness and smiles are truly infectious. Right now we are waiting for tea which will be Spaghetti Bolognese (I am so excited). The food and hospitality are out of this world! I am looking forward to exploring the camp tonight, apparently hippos are a common sighting in the lake so fingers crossed. Whilst driving down towards the camp the sightings varied lots! We saw amazing villas that class as ‘dream houses’ yet you also saw poverty and people sitting on the edge of the road hoping someone will buy whatever they are selling. It really makes you think. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? See you soon J

Jambo (hello)

From the busy city of Nairobi to the plains of Africa, today has been a very interesting day. Waking up at 06:30 in the Indaba campsite and getting a healthy breakfast and a hearty lunch from the staff we have here was wonderful but the real experience was the Great Rift Valley which spans from the Red Sea to East Mumbai. Furthermore, on the journey we saw a few herds of zebras and two Giraffes. Tonight we have spaghetti bolognaise to look forward to and then we will go looking for hippos.
