2015 Trip – 16 July

Jacob Jardine

Today has been another day traveling but we have now left Kenya and have just crossed over the border into Tanzania. It took some time but back on the road now. Also saw the top of Mt Kilimanjaro it looked extremely cool.

So today we have just been driving to Tanzania and we have crossed the border without waiting for too long or any hitches as far as I’m aware. There’s not much to write about today because we’ve spent all day on the truck. The only success I’ve had today was in a game called mafia where I successfully killed everyone in my group! See you soon x

Today is the big journey from Indaba campsite in Kenya to the Meserani Snake Park in Tanzania. This would be a 7 to 8 hour drive in the roasting sun. To pass the time we tried a variety of different games one of which was my version of the mafia. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed it, even though one of the mafia killed everyone.

Apart from that, the only excitement we had today was the border cross and getting a new visa for Tanzania and a sight of Mt Kilimanjaro’s snow toped peak. Hopefully I can get a few hours of sleep and feel refreshed for the Snake Park.

Today has been the largest journey so far, from Kenya into Tanzania. We will be staying at the Meserani Snake Park tonight, which will be our home for a week. Whilst on our 8 hour drive, we played a game called “Mafia” which is a brilliant card game that Grace taught us. We were able to cross the Kenyan- Tanzanian border by foot. The border was a footbridge made up of three steps that crossed a trickle of water. We also spotted Mount Kilimanjaro as the peak was above the clouds. Speak to you all soon!

Today we have been travelling from Kenya to Tanzania. While we were travelling we saw the top of Kilimanjaro from a distanced which looked amazing. Then we got off the truck to cross over the border to get into Tanzania which took a while but as I type now we still have an hour and a half left until we reached the Meserani Snake Park were we are camping. Everyone who is here are so good to get along with and that just helps me to have an even better time in Africa. Anyways, I love and miss everyone at home. Bye guys J

So today there isn’t much to talk about but we were up early as usual to set off from Kenya and carry on our travels to Tanzania. We successfully crossed the border whilst having a little bit of a wait but nothing too long. As our travels continued on the truck during our journey we did however see the top of Kilimanjaro! I can’t wait to arrive in Tanzania and see what that brings!

We got up this morning rather early so we could try to get to Tanzania as early as possible. We got through the border with a little wait but that is Africa for you, I am really excited and cannot wait to get to the snake park, the atmosphere of the place is amazing and once again can’t wait to experience it again. The whole group have bonded great and I can get on with anyone and talk to anyone on the trip which is amazing. Sorry about the short diary once again but all we have done today is travel and that is it really, hope you are all well at home and will write again soon.

Not much to say today. All we have done so far is travel from Kenya to Tanzania. Hopefully we will be arriving in Snake Park soon because we have been on the road for hours and hours and everyone is shattered. Last night we didn’t really do much. We were all just relieved to get a good shower. We took a lot of time yesterday trying to bond with each other. We were playing group games which I haven’t played since I was in drama at school. I think we’re all excited to get to Tanzania and take on the next part of our trip. Everything is good over here and hoping it is back home or in Cyprus if you’re there yet, I’ll write again soon.

Hiya everyone! Today is where I believe the real purpose of the trip starts; Kenya was amazing but it is in Tanzania where we will be doing all of the charity work… and I cannot wait! We have spent nearly all day travelling from Kenya where we had lots of forms to fill out regarding visa applications etc. We will be arriving at Meserani Snake Park very shortly which will be our home for most of the remainder of the trip. Tomorrow we will be sorting out lots of equipment and we will be meeting some sponsored pupils who have left school and are starting A Levels. I am so happy right now haha. Give my love to everyone and I will be thinking of you and Steve Mam… enjoy yourselves. Give Jen a hug from me also and I bet she is excited for the summer holidays? Haha will write soon J x

We crossed the border from Kenya to Tanzania today-we have had a long journey. I am really excited to get to Meserani Snakepark and set up our camp for a while. Tomorrow we are sorting out everything that we are giving to each school; you can tell the children at Chandler’s Ridge that all of the things they gave will be going to primary schools and a local medical clinic. I have had my first midgie bite today and I’m not impressed but I’m sure there will be more to come! I’ll have lots to talk about over the next few days as we are going to the schools and I’m not sure what to expect about the snakepark and Tanzania in general. I’m missing you a small amount haha. Love you and see you soon x

We crossed into Tanzania today, such a long and boring process. But we are finally here ready for 2 weeks of new and life changing experiences. The journey is extremely long but with everyone talking and having a laugh it’s been highly enjoyable journey. I’m missing home but I’m loving every second I spend here. I love and miss you all x

It’s our journey day today so we have crossed into Tanzania it’s been long and hot but not too bad. I’m looking forward to meeting the school pupils and going to the schools. I have been staying organized so my bag still closes and I haven’t lost anything yet which I’m sure you’re surprised to hear. Everyone is getting along really well and we have become a proper little family which is lovely to feel so comfortable around so many new people. Love you lots, kisses xxxxx.

We haven’t been up to much today as today was the day that we make the journey from Kenya to Tanzania. We have literally just passed through the border which was quite eventful as there were many different buildings we had to go to but all in all it wasn’t as bad as first anticipated. We are heading to the Meserani Snake Park now where we will set up camp for 7 days. The first couple of days we will be sorting stuff out for the schools but then we will be heading to the schools which I can’t wait for. Missing you all so much. I can’t wait to see you! Love you all loads!!

We are safely in Tanzania and on our way to the snake park. Just passed through the border and have about two hours till we get to our destination. On our trip we have already seen many amazing views including the top of Kilimanjaro and passed many villages and downs all in different conditions and I’m pretty sure there are going to be many more. The snake park is supposedly one of the best camps we stay at and I’m really looking forward to washing my clothes. Since we are in Tanzania we will be visiting more schools and also helping out at different clinics which I’m really looking forward to but tomorrow our first full day to the camp site we will just be sorting out the school equipment. Hope everyone is well at home lots of love

Crossing the border, being used to signs hanging over and tarmac roads was different, a wooden bridge over a sewer pipe and we left Kenya and in Tanzania. The government loves their paperwork hoping from building to building doing different things but glad to be filling up my passport with stamps. Heading to the Meserani Snake Park where will sort out the aid and visit some schools will be nice. Enjoy the cruise and don’t fall over board.

We were up fairly early today because we were moving from Kenya to Tanzania so we had to get our lunch and breakfast made for the road. We had to cross the boarder on a wooden bridge over a little ditch which was about a yard wide. We are now back on the road again after going through customs and we are on route to Meserani Snake Park where we will be staying for just over a week. I am really looking forward to going to all the schools and seeing the kids, it should be a real eye opener! Tomorrow we will be getting the stuff ready to take the schools so that should be good. Honestly cant wait for what is to come! Love you lots

Travelling to Tanzania from Kenya which takes around 6 hours, to save time we had to bring a packed lunch along with us. We had to cross the border which took a bit of time but soon enough we were on the truck and travelling again. We are camping at Meserani Snake Park for a week, which will hopefully be amazing as we will be able to settle in for longer than 2 nights. Tomorrow we are sorting out the resources for the schools. Can’t wait for the rest of the trip! Love you xx

Jambo again! Hope everyone is ok at home. Yesterday was pretty much a day for the anticipation for Tanzania to rise and were finally here, and we’re finally here! From writing this we have been here for an hour but on the drive up we saw, in my opinion, the best sight yet and I don’t think anything can beat it… Mount Killer man Jarrow!! It first took us a few moments to realise it was there but we were all looking to low, it was above the cloud and even a bit more. I’ll never forget that picture view. Whilst driving through Tanzania right now Killer man Jarrow is in sight, it’s hard to keep my eyes of it. After doing so much amazing stuff already we still have more to come and soon we will arrive at Meserani Snake Park, where things really start to get exciting and I didn’t think that was possible! I’m missing everyone loads still. Nearly a week down already, see you soon. I love and miss you all lots.

I hope everything is alright at home. Its almost been a week and it already feels like we’ve been here a month because of all the things we’ve done. We have driven into Tanzania and are planning on staying here for 14 days, most of them will be in Meserani Snake Park. The drive has been long but not boring although it has been very hot today. We drove past Mount Kilimanjaro which was one of the best views we’ve seen. Tomorrow we are sorting out equipment for the schools we’re visiting so there shouldn’t be any travelling which is a relief.
