2015 Trip – 17 July

Jordan Mace

Yesterday we made it to Meserani Snake Park and now I am sharing a tent with Lewy Jeffo for a week. Today has been the most stressful day as we needed to sort everything out so we have everything prepared and know what’s going to which schools. Also we had to carry heavy boxers and sharpen so many pencils but I know its all worth it to see the smiles on the faces of the children. I hope everyone at home is having a good time without me; I miss and love you all. Bye.

When we arrived at Meserani Snake Park it was nice to set everything up for the week and even better to find out that me and Aaron are sharing the 3 man tent which means that we have a lot more room. Today has been very, very stressful as we were organizing all the project equipment into the correct schools and knowing where things need to go. We have also given medical equipment to the snake park clinic which was extremely rewarding and definitely worth the time spent organizing. I hope that you are all well. Love you all.

After arriving at the Meserani snake park yesterday it was such a good feeling to be back. We set up the tents and fortunately myself and Joe got the three man tent between us meaning that we have a lot more room meaning my sleeping back won’t get wet from the walls of the tent anymore. Today we have just been sorting out equipment which we brought over and splitting it between different schools and the clinic here at the snake park. Just to let you know I have got tonsillitis again but nothing major so been and got some penicillin stuff but should be better in a few days nothing to worry about. Has been a busy day for most people and a bit tiring but will be worth it in the end. Hope all are well, bye.

We arrived at Meserani Snake Park yesterday and went to the bar where we set up a tab. I think I’m going to need someone to remind me that I do actually have to pay the bill at the end of the trip so that I don’t continuously get drinks and think that they’re free. Me and Becca are sharing a tent and this morning we got woken up by the prayer call that’s nearby. So I checked the time and thought it was twenty past six and we were getting woken up at seven so thought we’d go in the shower. However, as you know the display on my watch was broken and it was actually half five! We went for a shower anyway. Today we have just sorted out the project equipment all day and dropped some supplies off at the clinic on the premises. Not much too report today really, if Abbie L is reading this, I gave Saningo his letter and will be giving Dora’s hers on Sunday when I see her. See you all soon x

We’ve finally got to Meserani Snake Park, it hasn’t really changed other than they’ve upgraded the showers and bathrooms! Omg Stephanie I’ve actually been in the shower and washed my hair twice in the space of a week which is the same amount as I showered the whole time last time! We’ve just been doing admin sort of stuff today like sorting out what goes to which school etc. I am sharing a tent with Lorna which I’m super happy about because she’s just as crazy as me hahaha! Missing you and food!!!! Love you both so much xxxxxxxxx

Hello everyone! Today has been probably one of the most challenging days so far! We have spent basically all day sorting out equipment, organising letters and posters from the Y7 ‘Africa Day’, and rearranging pens and pencils into different bags. My highlight of the day was definitely visiting the medical centre. In or camp, Meserani Snake Park, on site there is a medical clinic which treats patient for free. It is funded by the profits made from the park (especially the bar). As we brought in equipment, the nurse introduced us to three children who had been admitted to the clinic. Two of them had had extremely vicious snake bites and the other had nasty burns all over her back. The one with the burns had been admitted to 3 different hospitals who took the fees but refused to treat her. She was basically sent on a wild goose chase whist in extreme pain. We learnt that she was in the kitchen cooking tes when her T-shirt caught fire. Is it horrifying when you realize how little care is given to the people of Tanzania especially children. The difference is unbelievable! Our new camp is one of the best places I have ever seen! I love it here1 it is so beautiful and the fact that it has the clinic, the market, the snake sanctuary, and the clinic makes it even better. I am looking forward to settling down here for the next week. I hope everyone is ok at home and I love you all. Xx

Today was the day that all of the project stuff was sorted out and it was exhausting for everyone who helped out. Literally endless boxes and cases filled with clothes, medical equipment, balls and more. I can’t wait for nice night’s sleep because we’ve worked so hard but I’m sure most will be fine. The Snake Park is amazing and definitely the best camp so far. I’m so glad we’re here for a week and that I’m sharing a tent with Jordy Mace. Bye for now, missing you all loads and I love all of you!

We have finally arrived at the Snake Park. It is much bigger than I had imagined but it is still as amazing as I thought it would be too. Our first night was so quiet and everyone got some good sleep ready for a longs days work. The day ahead was challenging but relaxing at the same time. We spent the day sorting all of the equipment we have brought for the clinic and the schools here. It was a really funny day but also pretty demanding due to the heat too. But overall all is well and good and everyone is still getting on really well. I’m loving every minute, I’m missing home and I hope that everyone is well. I love and miss you. X

The day started in a wonderful way because Jason cooked us a full English breakfast. However, we did need this to complete the full day of work sorting through and repacking the equipment that we had brought. Mostly I helped with the clinic gear but we all helped with the letters and I even got a blister from sharpening pencils.

Hopefully we will get to see the fruits of our labors in the days to come.

We made it to Meserani Snake Park and it is much bigger than I expected it to be. They have a clinic here that we visited, where two young girls were getting treated for snake bites. We gave the clinic all the boxes of medical equipment that we brought and it is given free to the people who need it. Me and Sophie were asked by Peter to help him with sorting out equipment and money that the 9 A level students needed for school. We spent the morning sorting out money and filling in forms after we met the students. For the rest of the day we sorted out equipment that will be sent to different schools so overall it was quite a relaxed day. OMG my chocolate has melted L

We have arrived! We are at the snake park and we have had a relaxed day just sorting out the equipment for all the different school we are going to visit over the next week. I am looking forward to meeting all the children and passing out the stuff seeing their faces light up. Today we also met some A level students that had been selected to go to different schools all around Tanzania because they all got the best scores in their primary. Peter took us to meet them and we learnt what the government had chosen for them to study, yeah the government chose what they study, and they had all been given really challenging subjects such as maths and science. In the snake park they also have a clinic that supplies the whole of Meserani and is the best place to treat snake bites (hence the name). we presented them with more equipment that we had brought over with us. The faces of the children staying there being treated were magical really. Hope everyone is doing well and that the last day of term was great for everyone. Lots of love J

We woke up the the prayer call at 5:30 am in Meserani Snakepark. I enjoyed a full English breakfast and then we went to the clinic and lock up to see the a-level students that needed to prepare for their studies. We saw the clinic and gave lots of supplies to the nurse. Then we started to get out all of the things we are taking to the schools and we had to sort out every single letter from the year 7s into which school and then find the photo of the AGS pupil who had written the letter. I had a good day all together and the bar here is amazing. I’m missing you lots! See you all very soon x
