Martha Labarani
There are seven children in Martha’s family, (two girls and five boys), Martha is the second born. Her mother doesn’t work and her father cuts grass to support his family. Martha gained very good results in her final primary school examinations at Lesiraa School, and a Padre paid her school fees to attend Engikaret Secondary School, Longido.
Martha sat her national secondary examinations in November 2017, and performed extremely well – she gained a Division Three – 22 points. As a result she was selected to study A’ Levels in History, Languages & Geography at Mlongwema High School, Lushoto, and she started her course in July 2018. She would like to be a lawyer one day. Martha is being sponsored through her two years of A’ Level studies by Maureen Burrows, from Nottingham. Maureen is a retired nurse who specialised in oncology. She is a widow with two stepsons and five grandchildren. She found out about The Meserani Project through a former head girl at Acklam Grange School – Claire Lancefield.
In November 2020 Martha was selected to study a BEd degree course in Early Childhood at the University of Dar Es Salaam. She is being jointly sponsored throughout her three years at university by Maureen Smith and Egglescliffe School P.E. Department, Stockton on Tees.
