Helena Sangan
Helena attended Lesiraa Primary School. She is living with her five sisters. Her father has passed away and her mother is crippled. To help them through the hard times, the family are getting food from some close friends.
Helena started Kipok Girls’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2011, and was being sponsored by Caroline Morrison, a former member of staff at Acklam Grange School.
In November 2012 Helena sat her National Examinations, and did not achieve the necessary pass mark to progress into Form Three. However, her sponsor supported her in completing her Form Two again, but unfortunately she failed again in November 2014 and is not now allowed to complete her secondary education. This is a tragedy for Helena, and a huge disappointment for her sponsor and everybody associated with The Meserani Project. What makes it all the more heartbreaking is that late in 2013 Helena’s mother suffered a stroke and was paralysed. It seems on the face of it to be unfair, but that is the situation regarding the education system in Tanzania, and we have to accept it.
