Raphael Sailevu Narika
His father has four wives, his actual mother has seven children (the other three wives have sixteen children between them). He is the sixth born to his mother, who owns five cows, and sells maize depending on weather. It would be impossible to pay for him to go to secondary school – none of his brothers or sisters go to secondary school. He leaves home at 6 a.m. to get to primary school for 7.30 a.m. He was positioned second in his year at the start of his final year at primary school. He would like to be a doctor one day.
Raphael started Moita Boys’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2014. He was being sponsored by Stephanie Gibson, a former pupil at Acklam Grange School. In April 2014 he unfortunately stopped attending school due to family pressure, and despite strenuous efforts to persuade his family to allow him to continue his education, we eventually had to terminate his sponsorship. His sponsor transferred her sponsorship to Inoti Kalanga, a Form One pupil at Engutoto Secondary School.
