Nawasa Mathayo

Her father has six wives, and Nawassa’s mother has ten children – she sells maize and beans for an income. Nawassa sees her father once a month, and she does not know all of her siblings. Her favourite subjects are Mathematics and English, and she enjoys singing. Her big brother is supporting the family. She was placed second in her examinations at Meserani Chini Primary School in early 2014, and performed particularly well in the national examinations in November 2014. She would like to be a pilot one day.

Nawasa started her secondary education at Kipok Girls’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2015. In her first school examinations in November 2015 she gained a Merit (the second highest level). She is being sponsored by Susan Walker.

Nawasa achieved a Division Three result in her final examinations, and was selected to study A’ Levels in  Chemistry, Biology and Geography at Mkolani High School, Mwanza. She started her course in July 2019. Susan Walker is continuing to sponsor Nawasa through her two years of A’ Level studies.

Nawasa achieved a Division III Point 13 result in her A’ Level examinations, and was selected to study a B Ed in Science at Mwenge Catholic University, starting in October 2021. Susan is continuing to sponsor Nawasa throughout her three yerars at university.
