Lootha Silamoi
Lootha’s father passed away in 2001, and one of his sisters died of malaria in 2012. Lootha himself spent four days in hospital in 2012 with malaria. He lives with his mother and three brothers and one remaining sister. They depend on the local community for a living, although his mother sells grass that she cuts herself.
Lootha started Moita Boys’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2011. He came 8th. in his year group in recent school examinations. Late in 2012 and early in 2013 he had to be taken to hospital because of malaria, but on each occasion he recovered and immediately returned to school. He was sponsored by through his secondary education by Trevor & Mary Atkinson.
In Lootha’s ‘mock’ final examinations in May 2014 he achieved a Division II pass, and in his final examinations he achieved the necessary marks to go on the study A’ Levels. He began his A’ Level studies at Kahororo Secondary School in July 2015. He studies Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Lootha was sponsored through his two years of A’ Level studies by Anne-Marie Coulton, whose two children both went to Acklam Grange School.
In October 2017 Lootha was selected by the government to study a B Ed degree at Mkwawa University, Iringa. Ann-Marie is continued to sponsor Lootha throughout his three years at university.
Lootha graduated in December 2020, gaining an upper second class with honours.
