Winnie Michael
Winnie attended Meserani Juu Primary School. Her father passed away in 2008 due to AIDS. She lives with her mother and her seven brothers and sisters. The family depends on the support of local friends. They graze other peoples’ cattle and are paid in milk.
Winnie started Kipok Girls’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2011, and completed her secondary education in November 2014. She was sponsored throughout her secondary education by Mike and Sue Walton. In her secondary school final examinations she achieved the necessary pass marks to progress to A’ Level studies, and the government allocated her a place to start in July 2015. Unfortunately Winnie was not able to take up the place due to ill health, but was able to start her A’ Levels in July 2016 – studying History, Geography and Language at Lufilyo School, Takuya, Mbeya. Mike and Sue continued to sponsor Winnie through her A’ Level studies.
In November 2018 Winnie was selected to study a degree in Human Resources at Sokoine University. Mike and Sue are sponsoring Winnie throughout her three years at university.
