Thomas Francis Memirieki
His father has two wives, his actual mother has five children and his father’s other wife has five children. His father sells cows, and his mother has no work. He has an elder brother who is very good academically, and his uncle is having to pay for his education. He has to walk one and a half hours to get to primary school each morning. He was positioned first in his year group at the start of his final year at primary school. Thomas wants to be a doctor one day.
Thomas started Moita Boys’ Secondary Boarding School in January 2014, and was placed 1st. out of 109 pupils in his year group in his first school examinations. In the National Form Two Examinations 2015 he gained a Distinction (the highest level of pass). He is being sponsored by Melanie Fordham.
Thomas sat his national secondary examinations in November 2017, and performed extremely well. As a result he was selected to study A’ Levels in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Ihungo School, Kagera, and he started his course in July 2018. Melanie Fordham is continuing to sponsor Thomas through his two years of A’ Level studies.
In November 2020 Thomas was selected to study a degree course in Mechanical Engineering at Dar Institute of Technology. Melanie is continuing her sponsorship of Thomas throughout his three years at university.
In November 2023 Thomas needed to spend a further year at university in order to gain certification which would allow him to be employed as a Mechanical Engineer. Melanie kindly sponsored Thomas for this fourth year.
In September 2024 Thomas was successful in applying to the African Union for an Intra-Africa – Network for Zero-Defect and Zero-Waste Digital Manufacturing for Electric Vehicles Components (NeDMEV) scholarship to do a Master’s Degree at Botswana International University of Science and Technology. This is a fantastic achievement, and testament to Thomas’ academic abilities in the field of Mechanical Engineering, and his personal ambitions.
A huge thank you to Melanie Fordham for helping Thomas to reach this position.
