You may remember our story back in March 2014 of our famous ‘knitter-slipper’ Hilda Renton, who has been knitting Meserani Slippers since 2012, and has now raised more than £5,000 for the project (click here for details). Hilda also sponsored Meporoo Sumu through his two years of secondary education at Einoti School, and is currently sponsoring Jackson Sanare who is in is final year at Elite Secondary School, Kisongo.

Hilda RentonHilda recently learnt about the plight of two of our sponsored students, and has stepped in to provide them with a lifeline:

Hilda being shown details of her new sponsored students last week

We have a male student who has been sponsored through his four years of secondary education, and was in floods of tears in January when told that we could not find him a sponsor for him to proceed to Arusha Vocational Training Centre. When Hilda heard this, she immediately offered to sponsor this student.

We have a female student who has shown an amazing aptitude at working with children. She has been sponsored through her secondary education, and is currently desperately trying to save up small amounts of money through odd-jobs so that she can pay to go on a teacher training course. On hearing that this student had no chance at all of finding the necessary money, Hilda has stepped in to sponsor her.

What a star!!

At the age of 89 Hilda has this month started a ‘new line’ in knitting – she has found a knitting pattern for fingerless mittens, and started production this week!

Amazing!
