Africa Expedition 2013

Saturday 13 July

Meet at Acklam Grange School at 0630 hours.

Travel by coach to Leeds Bradford International Airport.

Depart at 1025 on Flight KL 1546 (KLM)

Arrive Amsterdam at 1240

Depart Amsterdam at 2100 on Flight KQ 117 (Kenya Airways)

 

Sunday 14 July

Arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, at 0625 hours.

Meet driver and cook, and load up the Safari Truck.

Store the Meserani Project equipment in Nairobi.

Visit the Kazuri Beads Factory.

Drive out of Nairobi onto the Rift Valley Escarpment.

Drop down into the Great Rift Valley, and drive to Lake Naivasha.

Overnight camp at Fish Eagle Camp, on the shores of Lake Naivasha.

 

Monday 15 July

Early morning walking safari in Hells Gate National Park.

Explore the Lower Gorge and hot springs on foot.

Visit Longonot DEB Primary School.

Overnight camp at Fish Eagle Camp, Lake Naivasha.

 

Tuesday 16 July

Walking safari in the Crater Lake Sanctuary.

Night time game drive in Crater Lake Sanctuary.

Overnight “bush camp” in Crater Lake Sanctuary.

 

Wednesday 17 July

Drive to Nakuru.

Shopping at the Maasai Market in Nakuru.

Afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Overnight at the Wildlife Club of Kenya – Lake Nakuru Centre.

 

Thursday 18 July

Pre-breakfast game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Back for breakfast at the Wildlife Club of Kenya – Lake Nakuru Centre.

Further game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Shopping at the Maasai Market in Nakuru.

Drive to Nairobi.

Pick up the Meserani Project equipment.

Overnight at Indaba Camp, Nairobi.

 

Friday 19 July

Drive to Meserani, crossing the border into Tanzania en route.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Saturday 20 July

Visit the Meserani Snake Park Medical Centre, Orphanage, Maasai Museum and LivLife Education Centre.

Visit some pupils in their homes.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Sunday 21 July

Shopping at the Maasai Market, Arusha.

Lunchtime meal for the 25 Einoti School sponsored pupils.

Visit some of these pupils in their homes.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Monday 22 July

Visit Lesiraa Primary School and Meserani Juu Primary School, and begin the selection process for sponsored pupils.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Tuesday 23 July

Visit Meserani Chini Primary School, and begin the selection process for sponsored pupils.

Visit Meserani Market.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Wednesday 24 July

Visit Moita Boys Secondary Boarding School and Kipok Girls Secondary Boarding School to meet the 80 sponsored pupils.

Buy a goat at Kisongo Market.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Thursday 25 July

Visit Einoti Secondary School for volleyball and netball match, and meet the 25 sponsored pupils.

Visit Kisongo Primary School and begin the selection process for sponsored pupils.

Goat Barbecue with a Maasai family.

Overnight stay at a Maasai Boma.

 

Friday  26 July

Lunchtime meal for the 40 sponsored girls at Kipok School.

Overnight stay at Meserani Snake Park.

 

Saturday 27 July

Drive to Tarangire.

Game drive in Tarangire National Park.

Overnight ‘bush camp’ in Tarangire National Park.

 

Sunday 28 July

Morning game drive in Tarangire National Park.

Drive to Karatu.

Overnight stay at Kudu Lodge Camp, Karatu.

 

Monday 29 July

Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Visit Endarofta Secondary School for volleyball and netball match.

Overnight camp at Kudu Lodge Camp, Karatu.

 

Tuesday 30 July

Drive to Meserani.

Lunchtime BBQ for the 40 sponsored boys at Moita School.

Overnight camp at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Wednesday 31 July

Organise a Sports Day for Lesiraa, Meserani Juu and Meserani Chini Primary Schools.

Overnight stay at Meserani Snakepark.

 

Thursday 1 August

Drive to Nairobi, crossing the border into Kenya en route.

Overnight stay at Indaba campsite, Narobi.

 

Friday 2 August

Visit the Giraffe Sanctuary.

Visit St. Secilia School.

Evening Meal at the Safari Park Hotel.

Overnight stay at Indaba campsite, Nairobi.

 

Saturday 3 August

Visit Nairobi city centre.

Pack for home.

Overnight stay at Indaba campsite, Nairobi.

 

Sunday 4 August

Depart Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, on flight KQ 116 (Kenya Airways) at 0815 hours.

Arrive Amsterdam at 1555 hours.

Depart Amsterdam on flight KL 1551 (KLM) at 2110 hours.

Arrive Leeds Bradford International Airport at 2115

Coach trip back to Acklam Grange School.

An e-mail giving the estimated arrival time at Acklam Grange School will be sent to all parents as soon as we set off from the airport.
